I am staying at a buddy's place who lives in Louisville about 5 miles from the track. I am flying out first thing Friday morning and will be there for the Kentucky Oaks and of course, the Derby. Are you going to be down there? Also, I have never bet a horse in my freaking life, so any advice will be greatly appreciated. Finally, what the **** is a mint julip? I am pretty excited. Can't go this year it will be the first one missed since 94. A mint julip is Kentucky Bourbon, sugar, and a mint leaf. I suggest you have at least a mininum of 4. You'll have a great time and I guarantee once you go to one Derby you'll go back. Get to the track early friday so you can take in the Churchill expierience before the crowd comes. Any other comments on thing that are absolutely musts to do out there other than the 4 mint julip minimum in terms of liquor, eating, entertainment, women etc as well as best way of getting tickets (I am assuming the infield tickets is my best bet). I will be there all the way through Sunday night.

Get the grandstand/clubhouse pass that will include infield access. Personaly I think the infield is amature hour but certainly worth doing a walk around. To see the whole track it's worth paying the 50.00 + dollars to see the whole track. That way you can hang out in the paddock area and catch a look at the horses and jocks.
as far as the nightlife downtown louisville and Bardstown Rd (not sure the spelling is right) is always fun. As far places to eat your buddy will probably know more then me.
